OC Dia del Niño Festival Brings Fun Performances and Arts Activities to Costa Mesa on April 15
Free Family Event Features Lucky Diaz, Trio Ellas, Moona Luna, the Fern Street Circus and More

Grammy award-winning children’s music stars LUCKY DIAZ AND THE FAMILY JAM BAND, Latin music sensation TRIO ELLAS and kindie pop favorites MOONA LUNA headline the 7th OC Dia del Niño Festival, which takes place on Sunday, April 15 from 10am-5pm at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa. This special free family festival features a full day of live music, dance, circus workshops, engaging children’s art activities. community resource booths and Special Guest Emcee actress DYANA ORTELLI, the voice of Tia Victoria from the Academy Award-winning Disney•PIXAR animated film COCO.

The OC Día del Niño/Day of the Child Festival is a featured event of Arts OC’s 33rd Annual Imagination Celebration, a month-long countywide festival of arts for families and children.

As part of Imagination Celebration, Día del Niño provides fun and free arts activities and experiences that can be enjoyed by the whole family and children of all ages and skill levels. The Dia del Niño stage will feature performances by professional artists, local arts organizations, schools and community groups.

This year’s festival includes performances by RELAMPAGO DEL CIELO GRUPO FOLKLORICO, BALLET FOLKLORICO LAS ESTRELLAS (OCSA), CLAUDIA DE LA CRUZ FLAMENCO INSTITUTE, EMILY BAHENA, FRATERNIDAD D. BOLIVIA, INTERNATIONAL PEACE CHOIR, MARIACHI JUVENIL HERENCIA MICHOACANA, OCCTAC STRINGS, SANTA ANA HIGH SCHOOL CHAMBER SINGERS, SANTA ANA HIGH SCHOOL THEATRE ARTS CONSERVATORY, TEAM TUPUA Polynesian Dance and THE LEARNING SPOT DANCE ACADEMY.

The event also features interactive circus workshops by the acclaimed FERN STREET CIRCUS, and workshops in painting, music, clay, beadwork, songwriting and storytelling by artists Sandra Lilia Velasquez, Hiep Nguyen, Dino Perez, Hisa Takakuwa, Frank Ordoñez, Adriana Martinez, Manuel Cortez, Marisol Cardenas, Martin Espino, Janet Inez Adams, Veronica Ruiz, Yenny Bernal and Moises Vasquez.

Renowned actress Dyana Ortelli, who voiced the character of Tia Victoria in the Academy Award-winning animated film COCO, will serve as special guest MC from 10am-12:50pm. Ortelli, whose credits also include The Three Amigos, La Bamba and Will and Grace, will personally present 20 lucky winning attendees with a beautifully autographed special Tia Victoria gift. 

Día del Niño/Day of the Child is a traditional family holiday celebrated in Mexico in April that honors children, celebrates their importance in society and promotes their well–being. The theme for this year’s festival is A Celebration of the Americas (Celebración de las Américas).

This year’s Día del Niño Festival will coincide with the last day of the OC Fair & Event Center’s Imaginology celebration for double the family fun! The event is free and open to the public, and is easily accessible from the 55, 405 and 73 freeways, and the OCTA 47, 55 and 178 bus lines. Event parking is $8 and includes Imaginology.

The 2018 OC Día del Niño Festival is presented by Arts OC and Media Arts Santa Ana (MASA) in conjunction with the OC Fair & Event Center’s Imaginology. Día del Niño/Day of the Child es una fiesta familiar tradicional celebrada en México en abril que honra a los niños, celebra su importancia en la sociedad y promueve su bienestar.

Como parte de Imagination Celebration, Día del Niño ofrecerá actividades y experiencias artísticas divertidas y gratuitas que podrán disfrutar toda la familia y los niños de todas las edades y niveles de habilidad. El escenario del Dia del Niño contará con actuaciones de artistas profesionales, organizaciones artísticas locales, escuelas y grupos comunitarios.
